Whitney Hames Sr.

We are sad to announce that our father, grandfather, husband, and friend Whitney Hames Sr has passed away at home on February 19, 2023. Whitney Wayne Hames Sr. was born on March 3, 1940 to Whitney and Ethel Hames of Clawson, Michigan. He married Linda Shields on November 21, 1964 and had four children Whitney, Greg, Brian, and Skip. Whitney and Linda raised their four children in Sand Creek, Michigan before retiring to Raleigh, NC to have the family reunited. He had 7 grandchildren which he adored. We will miss him very much. He was: A good human An innovative teacher An entrepreneur A fosterer of international relations A compassionate actor An eclectic rule breaker A golf, baseball, game enthusiast A plant propagator A creative problem solver A diligent doer A fierce competitor A builder of community A world changer We love you There will be a memorial service on March 11, 2023 at 3:00pm at the UUFR fellowship hall at 3313 Wade Avenue. It will be followed by a reception with light refreshments at 4:00. This service and reception will be open for people to attend, and it will be streamed live and taped for viewing on YouTube for those that can not attend. If you would like to honor Whit’s memory please consider giving a plant or planting a plant for someone. It can be a family member, a friend, an acquaintance or as Whit often did you can give the gift to someone you meet on the street.
