Obituary
Tom Jay Hughes

Fuquay Varina, North Carolina

Age 54.
Died 6/17/2023.

Tom Jay Hughes, 54, of Fuquay-Varina, NC passed away on June 17, 2023. He spent his final days at home surrounded by loved ones after losing his battle with cancer. Tom is preceded in death by his father Thomas Hughes, his grandparents Othal and Marie Talley and Hugh and Jewel Parrish, his step mother-in-law Mary, and his stepdaughter from a previous marriage, Jamie. Tom is survived by his wife Amy Hughes, son Dustin Hughes, mother Judy Hughes, sister Anna Robbins, brother David Hughes, mother-in-law Monette Irwin, and father-in-law Steve Hopewell, as well as other extended family members and friends. Tom was born on July 13, 1968, in Austin, TX. He loved football and was a lifelong Longhorn fan. He always made sure to watch every game, and looked forward to the next season as soon as the last was over. Tom also loved taking care of his many beautiful plants and working in the yard. He enjoyed woodworking and wanted one day to be able to sell some of his pieces. He liked visiting the mountains and beach and enjoyed walks in the woods. Tom had a knack for photographing nature and had recently enjoyed learning how to create 3D-printed items. Memorial services for Tom will be determined at a future date. Hospice was an invaluable support for Tom and his family at the end of his life. Please consider making a donation in his name to your local hospice provider.
