Obituary
Timothy Joseph Donahoe

Carrboro, North Carolina

Age 75.
Died 1/13/2025.

Tim passed away unexpectedly on Monday night, January 13 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC. Tim was born on Friday, May 13th, 1949 in Michigan. His parents were William Franklin Donahoe and Katherine Mary Donahoe. Family lore had it that he was born in the hospital elevator during a brown-out episode. Tim was the 7th of 9 children and was preceded in death by his siblings; Anne, David, Mary, Daniel, Pattie and Williiam (Willie). He is survived by his brother Michael Donahoe of Colorado Springs, CO and brother John Donahoe (Libby), and niece Jordan, of Santa Ana, California. He is survived by his loving wife, Melody Ann (Mel) Watral of Carrboro. Tim and Mel met in Maui, Hawaii when she served as the cook for a Sierra Club service trip. Tim was managing a sandwich shop and Mel walked in to inquire about the chocolate bars that they sold. Tim aways said that he ‘knew he was sunk’ when he saw Melody’s long red hair and bright blue eyes. He was brave enough to ask her to marry him, even though that meant leaving “paradise” to move to Carrboro, NC. He often said that this was a decision he never regretted. Tim loved his work at Weaver Street Market in Carrboro. His outgoing personality served him well, entertaining and getting to know his customers. He was a master of the “banter “ with his loyal customers and had a devoted group of ‘regulars’ and many, many friends. He had a heart of gold and will be dearly missed by his loved ones. A funeral mass honoring Tim's memory will be offered at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Chapel Hill on Friday, March 28th at 10:30 am. Reception to follow the Mass will take place in the STM Friends and Family Hall. To honor where Tim and Melody met, donations maybe be made to ‘Maui Cultural Lands’ or the ‘Hawaii Strong’ fund, to support the ongoing recovery efforts on Maui.
