Obituary
Thomas E. Mould

Raleigh, North Carolina

Age 95.
Died 2/16/2025.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our father, Thomas Elton Mould, who left us peacefully on February 16, 2025 at the age of 95. Tom was born on April 14, 1929 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The oldest son of four children (Jean, Bruce, and Shirley) to Hilda and Leslie Mould, he graduated from Lachine High School, attended Sir George Williams College (Concordia University), and enjoyed a 42-year career at Nortel in Canada and the United States. In Montreal, he married Valerie Reid (deceased as of December 30, 1970) and had three children, David, Linda and Nancy. In 1971 Tom married Brenda Tompkins Freeborn (with children Margaret, Ian, and Tom) and they were happily married for 54 years. Tom will be missed for his kindness, generosity, and his great pride in his family, which was the most important factor in his happiness. He was a lover of reading and music, often heard breaking out in song. Possessing an amazing curiosity and common sense, Tom was one to gather information, read about our world and current events, and loved to engage in discussions expressing his opinion and learning from others. He was extremely hard working and exceptionally handy, whether he was building an addition on a house, repairing a car, baiting a fishhook, or sewing on a doll’s leg. Tom was very athletic and active, starting golf at an early age and playing until he was 90 years old. Additionally, he was an avid weightlifter, hockey player, a Golden Gloves boxer, and participated on an eight-man rowing team in his youth. His athleticism was infectious as he inspired others to exercise and join in push up or pull up challenges. Tom loved the water, and he and Brenda built a home and retired on Kerr Lake in Virginia, where they lived for 30 years and enjoyed his passion for fishing and golfing. Tom and Brenda have been active members of Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, NC, Clarksville Presbyterian Church in Clarksville, VA, and most recently White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, NC. He will be cremated at the City of Oaks Cremation & Funeral Home in Raleigh, NC. His immediate family will participate in a Celebration of Life at a later date. Tom is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Mould, his sister Shirley David, his six children (David Mould, Margaret King, Linda Oustinow, Ian Mould, Tom Mould, and Nancy Mould), his eight grandchildren (Jennifer Rehm, Hannah Mould, Sarah Mould, Heyward Mould, Dargan Mould, Helen Oustinow, Nicolas Oustinow, and Rachel Mould), and his great grandchild Sawyer Rehm. He will be greatly missed by all.
