Obituary
Susan Virginia Putnam

Cary, North Carolina

Age 77.
Died 8/9/2022.

Susan "Susie" Virginia Putnam, 77 of Cary, NC, passed away Tuesday, August 9th. Born September 8, 1944 in Rocky Mount - a daughter of the late Carl Clifton and Inez Hobgood Putnam. She is also preceded in death by an infant brother Daniel Putnam as well as older brothers Charles Clifton Putnam and George Putnam, and her beloved cat Kitty Emma. She is survived by one son Kirk Harris and wife Crystal of Apex, NC, two grandsons Sean Harris and Logan Harris of Apex, NC as well as several nieces and one nephew and many wonderful friends including Kaye Collie of Greenville, NC. Susan graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School in 1962 and attended East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. She retired from the Construction Management Industry and was a long time member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, NC. Susan enjoyed various volunteering opportunities for many years, including Meals On Wheels, Big Brother-Big Sister, docent at Stonewall Manor, past Board Member of Page Walker Cultural Arts Center in Cary, Salvation Army Bell Ringer, and Wake County Public Schools. She enjoyed dancing as a member of the Triangle Singles Dance Club in Raleigh. She always loved trips to the beach and researching family genealogy, especially since her ancestors began settling in Eastern North Carolina in the 1600's. She discovered that she and many others on her maternal grandmother's side are Mayflower Descendants. Susan's biggest joy was spending time with her beloved grandsons whom she loved unconditionally. There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at Ebeneezer Shelter #2 at Jordan Lake, NC at 11AM on Sunday, August 28th. In lieu of flowers donations maybe made to any animal rescue group or charity of your choice.
