Obituary
Steven Duryea

Durham, North Carolina

Age 72.
Died 3/3/2024.

Steven (Steve) Alan Duryea passed away peacefully on March 3rd, 2024 at the age of 72. Born in Oceanside, NY on November 25th, 1951, Steve will always be known for his kind heartedness, love for his family, and perfect joke at inopportune moments. He had passion for golf and boating, a passion that he shared with everyone. He was your go-to-guy for sports knowledge, especially New York teams, and cared deeply for those around him. Even through the difficult times, he displayed happiness and love, all the way till the end of life. Steve is preceded in death by his parents Jean Mable Johansen and Alan George Duryea, Jr. He is survived by his two children Christopher Duryea (Casey) and Colleen Tolley (Neil), two grandchildren, Carson and Cora Duryea, and sister Maureen Fiorenza (Jack), nephew and niece, Justin and Jessica Fiorenza. Wonderful words from his sister, Maureen: “My brother Steve was known for his surprises and sense of humor. You couldn’t help shaking your head and laughing which are now the memories we cherish. For example, my daughter Jessica, played basketball and the night he watched her play wasn’t her best game so for Christmas that year he sent her a brick. The Post Office wanted to insure the package which of course he declined. One particular Christmas morning he surprised me and was standing on my doorstep. How did he know I needed to see him? One word was Love. That was Steve. His favorite sandwich was peanut butter and mayonnaise so always had to have it in the house when he visited. We used to send each other cards “What is a brother” “What is a Sister” which became a running joke over the years. He was so happy becoming a Grandfather and knowing Steve he would have had them on his boat cruising the lake like he did as a child. His family was the most important thing to him and his Love was unconditional. If you met Steve, you were his friend. Steve was a hardworking, loving, caring person which brought Love and Laughter to all and he will be missed.” Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude for all the support and care that Sunnybrook Rehabilitation Center has provided over the years. As well as Transition Life Care, who helped guide us through this difficult time. Steve’s celebration of life will be held on March 23rd, 2024 at the Boot Room (2501 University Dr, Durham, NC 27707), between the hours of 1pm - 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the SPCA of Wake County. In honor of Steve’s life, we would like to share a few songs that we are sure he would enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avaSdC0QOUM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUsOJrw5PJE
