Obituary
Scott Rhea McClelland

Youngsville, North Carolina

Age 66.
Died 2/27/2022.

Scott Rhea McClelland, age 66, passed away peacefully at home on February 27, 2022. Born on December 31,1955 in Bluff City, TN Scott was the son of the late John Page McClelland, Jr. and Edith Lynn Brown McClelland. Scott attended Sullivan East High School where he participated on the swim team, track and field, and basketball teams. Shortly after high school he worked at Eads Sheet Metal, Eastman and Dishner Custom Pools. Scott and Catherine (Cathey) Green were married on November 4, 1979 at Big Springs UMC in Charlotte, where she was a member. They attended Bluff City UMC where Scott thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship, family time and the competitive spirit of church league softball and basketball with other members and devoted friends. Scott’s career began with Piedmont Airlines at Tri-Cities Airport and then to Charlotte with USAirways where he worked (and played more than a few practical jokes!) for 29 years. Nicknamed “Sasquatch” due to his 6’5” frame he was always an avid outdoorsman participating in fishing and golf tournaments, as well as hunting, camping and horseback riding with family and friends. Each year, everyone who knew Scotty looked forward to celebrating his birthday on New Years Eve, which often featured an enormous pot of elk stew or chili made with game from his hunting adventures in Colorado. After returning to the family home in Bluff City, Scott enjoyed working around the farm, many DIY projects and entertaining friends during Bristol race weekends. Scott and Cathey were married, until his death, for 42 years and are blessed with two sons and three grandchildren: Jessee Rhea McClelland and wife Kimberly Sutton, their sons Owen Page and Stewart Scott; Michael Lee Page McClelland and wife Raisa Dwialamsyah, their daughter Freya Isabelle. He is also survived by his sister Bobby Lynn (Cunningham) Wright, nephew Josh Cunningham and wife Lauren, and their children Addie and Eli; sister-in-law Debra Chappell (McClelland), brothers-in-law Steve Green, Donald Green and wife Amanda, Gary Green and wife Patricia . In addition to his parents, Scott was preceded in death by his brother John Page McClelland III and brother-in-law Don Wright, brother-law Daren Green and wife Lynn, sister-in-law Peggy Green. The family will hold a celebration of life in both North Carolina and Tennessee. The Interment service will be held Saturday, March 19th at Sunrise Cemetery in Bluff City, TN at 10:00 a.m. - All are welcome . Afterwards, the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Riverbend Retreat 108 Blevins Road, Johnson City. This site will be updated with the time and place in the Charlotte area as soon as it’s available. Please check back. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to: The Ballard House in Katy, TX https://bit.ly/3hxTHSp The family wishes to express its appreciation for the gift of life through the exemplary care received by the Lung Transplant Teams at Houston Methodist Hospital and Duke University Hospital, and the organ donor.
