Obituary
Scott H. Brown

Zebulon, North Carolina

Age 66.
Died 9/28/2024.

Celebrating a Life of Adventure It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband & father, Scott Brown, who left us on September 28th, 2024 following a sudden illness. Born on July 9th, 1958 in Buffalo, NY, to the late Roberta (McCray) and late Neil H. Brown. Scott was a true adventurer at heart. From a young age, he exhibited an insatiable curiosity about the world around him. He attended Paul Smith School for Forestry in Paul Smiths, NY followed by The National Hardwood Lumber Association Grading School in Memphis, TN and graduated in 1978. Scott spent the majority of his 46 year forestry career working as Vice President of Native American Hardwood Corporation in Charlton, MA from 1982 until its closing in 2005. He then worked as a Lumber Grader and Safety Advisor at Hull Forest Products in Pomfret, CT until the Spring of 2024 when he retired. Scott leaves behind many loved ones including his wife of 46 years, Rachel. Their bond was a testament to the power of love and friendship, and he cherished every moment spent with her. Together, they built a home in Warren, Massachusetts where they lived together for 32 years and created a tapestry of memories that included camping along the Golden Road, family dinner and road trips, and celebrations of many milestones. Scott is also survived by his devoted daughters, Melissa Merlo-Bentley, Jessica McRackan and husband Dinah McRackan, Amy Taylor and husband Jon Taylor, and Molly Brown, 7 beloved granddaughters, Lily and Zoe Merlo, Margaret Bentley, Rosie, Amber and Hazel McRackan, and Amelia Taylor, his older brother Clem H. Brown and wife Alice, several nieces and nephews, and countless friends and colleagues. As a father and grandfather, Scott was a guiding light. He instilled in his children & grandchildren the values of courage, resilience, and the importance of pursuing one’s passions. A true outdoorsman, family trips were often to Maine and full of fishing and canoeing. He taught others to embrace challenges and make solutions, not excuses. His adventurous spirit and grit will forever live on in our hearts as we embark on our own journeys. To share your stories and pictures of Scott with his family please email scotthbrownmemories@gmail.com. Services will be held privately by the family at a future date. In lieu of cards and flowers, the family requests donations be made to Second Chance Animal Services of East Brookfield, Ma, where Bandit, his “best dog ever” came from. As we say goodbye to our favorite adventurer, we find comfort in knowing that he is now on the greatest adventure of all.

For additional information or for service details, please reach out to the family directly.
