Obituary
Sara (Crittenton) Allan

Raleigh, North Carolina

Age 67.
Died 6/17/2024.

Sara (Crittenton) Allan Raleigh, NC Age 67 Died June 17, 2024 Sara Allan, passed away quietly and peacefully at home on June 17, 2024 at the age of 67. She is survived by her mother and father; Linda and George Crittenton, her siblings; Randy (Susan) Crittenton. Kathy (Boyd) Whitley , and twin sister Julie (Steve) Lockhart, several nieces and nephews, her loving husband of 37 years; Christian, and her children; Lindsay and Jordan. Sara was born in Miami, Fl. and enjoyed her childhood in Ft Lauderdale, Fl. but spent most of her life in Raleigh, attending Millbrook HS and Appalachian State University. Prior to raising a family she worked in the healthcare field (Rex hospital) and as a travel agent, roaming the country and Europe with Christian. Sara was a loving and dedicated mother for her children, serving as room mom and more for many years. She was active in the community and the Interfaith Food Shuttle organization and farm, including raising 50 chickens in her garage until mature enough to release on the farm. Sara was also an avid gardener and had a certified “Natural Wildlife Habitat” in her yard , taking great enjoyment from wildlife, nature and trips to our National Parks as well as Holden Beach which was a particularly special place to her and her family. Sara fought a 3 year battle with cancer, Stage 4 when discovered, fighting hard and beating it back twice to continue to live life on her terms. In spite of the challenges she never lost her grace, her caring and pride for her family, her beautiful smile or her sense of humor. She had amazing strength and courage. A favorite saying of hers was “We cannot control the wind, but we can direct the sails” and that was how she chose to live her life, filling especially the last few years with joy, calm, and laughter that was absolutely infectious to others. Sara will be dearly missed and her presence will be felt the most by the ocean and in nature. Though she left us much too soon she would state repeatedly how grateful she was for her life experiences, her family and her many great memories. She would say she had a “wonderful life”…and she did. Those wishing to express sympathy (and in lieu of flowers) may consider making a donation to Transitions LifeCare Hospice, St. Jude’s, Save Our Monarchs or to your favorite wildlife charity. A private memorial service will be held at a later date
