Obituary
Ruth W. Deyoung

Durham, North Carolina

Age 96.
Died 7/11/2025.

Ruth Wanda DeYoung, a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her first husband John Russell Meranda in 1959, and her second husband John Junior DeYoung in 1987. Ruth was also dedicated to teaching and and inspiring young minds, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students. Ruth's life was filled with incredible experiences, including traveling with her husband John out west (many times) in their camper, and traveling to Israel. She also cherished the memories made on multiple cruises with family and friends. In her free time, Ruth enjoyed indulging in her creative passions, such as chalk drawing, painting, quilting, and sewing. Her artistic talents brought joy to those around her and served as a reflection of her vibrant spirit. Ruth will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness, passion for teaching, and love for adventure will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her. May she rest in peace. Psalm 27:1, 4-5, 13-14: The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to enquire in his temple. For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock. I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!
