Obituary
Ronald Foulds

Cary, North Carolina

Age 92.
Died 3/21/2024.

Ronald B. Foulds, age 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 21, 2024, after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. His Lord allowed him to maintain his terrific sense of humor and enjoyment of life and loved ones until his final moments. He was born in Teaneck, NJ on December 25, 1931, son of the late Andrew Kip and Ethelwyn Johnson Foulds. He is also predeceased by his older brother, Andrew Kip Foulds, Jr. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Nancy Siehl Foulds. Ron and Nancy first lived in the Pittsburgh area, then Gaithersburg, Maryland and, only recently, in North Carolina. Ron was active in his community with the Darnestown Civic Association, was a founding member of the Darnestown Swim and Racquet Club, active in the Boy Scouts of America and served as an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church. They attended Gaithersburg Presbyterian church while living in Maryland and were active members. Ron led Bible studies, served as elder and trustee, hosted small groups and, as they got older, Ron and Nancy enjoyed being active participants in the senior VIPS group. He traveled much of the world with his wife and friends and never passed up an opportunity to go sailing. Ron graduated from the University of Michigan in 1953 with a BSE. He loved his time there and enjoyed singing in the Glee Club, his Chi Psi fraternity, and being elected as class Vice President. His family thinks it only appropriate that he passed the year his beloved Michigan football team won the NCAA National Championship. Later, Ron attended the University of Pittsburgh and received an MS in Mechanical Engineering (1959) and an MBA (1965). During his career, Ron spent time with Bettis Atomic Power Lab designing nuclear power reactors for submarines (USS Nautilus) and aircraft carrier (USS Enterprise). He managed engineering and development of nuclear power plant refueling technology. He joined the Atomic Energy Commission, then the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission to direct research for safety of nuclear power reactors. Ron will be deeply missed by his children, Judy Paulson (Walt), Doug Foulds (Jodi), Kathy Foulds (Ben Krensky), Grandchildren Andy, Abby, Kelsey, Jonathan, David (Rachel), Ava, Chloe, Natalie, Leah, and Great Granddaughter, Emery. Ron will be dearly remembered for his positive attitude, witty puns, laughter, and deep commitment to his wife, church, community, friends and family. His long life and marriage modeled to all of us what a godly life with integrity looks like. He will be very missed.
