Obituary
Robert Peffers

Raleigh, North Carolina

Age 92.
Died 12/15/2025.

Robert Noel “Bob” Peffers, 92, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, in Raleigh, North Carolina, after a brief illness. Born September 11, 1933, in Ossining, New York, to parents Albert and Margaret Peffers, Bob was always quick with a joke, and lived a full and giving life. He served in the U.S. Air Force, and loved to travel, including a much-loved trip to Vienna with his son and recent trip to Mexico for his granddaughter's wedding. He cherished morning walks and lunches with San Antonio friends. Upon graduating from Ossining High School in 1951, he joined the Air Force, serving as a radar technician. After serving, he attended Ithaca College, where he studied business. During the summer of 1957, his brother introduced him to his future wife, Jean Elizabeth Landby, also a OHS graduate, who was pursuing a Masters at Cornell. They married in 1958, the year before they received their degrees. After graduating college, the two traveled through Europe for three months. He accepted a job with the Air Force Exchange Service in Wiesbaden, Germany, where his first two children were born. In 1967, the family moved to Dallas, where his two younger children were born, before relocating to San Antonio in 1969. While he missed the fall seasons of New York, he did grow to love San Antonio and remained there for 47 years. There, Bob found happiness and success as a buyer/salesman—a role that suited his outgoing nature and gift for connecting with people. Whether closing a deal or sharing a laugh, Bob brought warmth and sincerity to every interaction. As an empty-nester, he added Molly, his dear rescue dog from Lake Medina, to the family. Bob, Jean, and Molly moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2016 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Bob was known for his generosity and unwavering loyalty. He was a devoted husband to Jean for 67 years and a loving father to his son, Colonel Michael John Peffers (preceded in death; wife Cynthia), and daughters Margaret Turlington (husband Tom), Melissa Peffers, and Marla Turlington (husband Ed). He cherished his role as grandfather to three grandsons and three granddaughters, and two great-granddaughters born in 2025. Those who knew Bob will remember him not only for his steadfast presence but also for his comedic spirit, including his well-known ritual of sending emails he thought would brighten a person’s day. His humor brought joy to everyday moments and left a lasting impression on friends and family alike. A faithful friend and loyal companion, Bob’s legacy is one of kindness, caring, laughter, and enduring love. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A Celebration of Life service will be scheduled after the New Year in Raleigh, North Carolina. Donations in memory may be made to: Gary Sinise Foundation (supports veterans) https://www.garysinisefoundation.org/ and Animal Defense League of Texas in San Antonio https://adltexas.org/ .
