Obituary
Robert Patrick Mayette

Durham, North Carolina

Age 83.
Died 12/29/2024.

DURHAM, NC – Robert (Bob) Patrick Mayette passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at the age of 83. Bob was born in Stamford, Connecticut on October 20, 1941 to Francis and Olga Mayette. He graduated from Stamford High School in 1959 where he served as President of both his Junior and Senior classes and earned the nickname, Jocko. After high school, Bob began working at Clairol Inc, as a Senior Programmer, where he met his soulmate, Barbara Ackerman, who became his wife of 56 years. He also worked for Emery Air Freight as a Senior Staff Programmer, Volt Technical Services as a Senior Consultant, and Lone Star Industries of Greenwich, CT. In 1979, he relocated his family to Virginia Beach where he continued to work for Lone Star Industries and then Home Quarters as MIS Operation Manager. In 1996, Bob and Barbara moved to the Raleigh, NC area where he started his company, Global Network Solutions, and then he worked for and retired in 2014 from Premiere Communications & Consulting as a Senior Project Manager. Bob loved his country and served for six years, receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Army National Guard of Connecticut. He also loved a good celebration and could always be found on the dance floor, enjoying a glass of Johnnie Walker on the rocks with a twist, or listening to his idol, Frank Sinatra. He was an avid sports fan, but especially enjoyed watching his beloved New York Jets, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and attending and watching many golf majors with his son. While he served many roles as husband, father, co-worker, and friend, his favorite role was being Popeye to his three grandsons, Taylor, Devin and Nash. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Olga Mayette, and his brother, Frank Mayette. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ackerman Mayette; his son, Marc Mayette (Dana); his daughter, Danielle Woods (Donald); sister-in-law, Helga Mayette of Florida; grandchildren, Taylor Woods, Devin Woods, Nash Mayette; nieces, Jennifer Groeger (Mark) of Connecticut, and Michelle Grzebieniowski (Michael) of Massachusetts; and special young man and family friend, James Patrick Tully of Alaska. The family would like to express their sincerest thanks to the staff at Transitions LifeCare of Raleigh for their care and compassion during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you honor Bob’s memory by donating to Transitions LifeCare of Raleigh, https://www.transitionslifecare.org/donate/ or Tunnels to Tower Foundation, https://t2t.org/ A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
