Obituary
Robert Emmett O'Loughlin

Cary, North Carolina

Age 75.
Died 5/29/2024.

With heavy hearts we bid farewell to Robert Emmett O’Loughlin who passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 in Cary, North Carolina. The second oldest of nine children, Robert (Bob), born on July 22, 1948 was the son of the late William Thomas O’Loughlin and Agnes Forrest (Babs) O’Loughlin. Bob grew up in Yonkers, NY, attended Stepinac High School, and graduated from Pace University. He lived in White Plains, NY and Weston, CT before settling in Cary, NC. Bob had a long and distinguished career with IBM as an information technology executive. In the early 1990s, Bob accepted an opportunity with IBM that took him to the Research Triangle in North Carolina, where he worked until retiring. Following his IBM career, Bob spearheaded several small enterprises to keep active and current in the IT arena. An avid golfer and always a student of the game, Bob could be found sharing his love for golf with anyone of similar enthusiasm. His legacy lives on in the countless rounds of golf played, friendships forged, and his willingness to volunteer at any fundraiser on or off the golf course that would benefit others. Robere, as he was affectionately known by his family, was the gregarious, fun uncle, loved for his stories, his mischievous spirit, and his generosity. A connoisseur of fine food and wine, he was no stranger to the kitchen. He was known for his legendary vegetables, bruschetta, Thanksgiving cranberry sauce and fresh homemade bread. He prided himself on his collection of fine wines. Bob's family includes the late William (Pat), Mark (Sandy), Kyle (late Vincent Cahill), Shawn (Robbin), Siobhan (James Reardon), Christine, Barbara (Kirk Manogue) Michael (Maureen), 22 nieces and nephews, in addition to several dear and lifelong friends. Mass of Christian burial will be held at Annunciation Church, Crestwood, NY on Friday June 14 at 10:30 am, with interment following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, NY. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Robert’s name to The Jimmy V Foundation. Until our next tee time Rob, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
