Obituary
Richard Allen Childs, Sr

Raleigh, North Carolina

Age 72.
Died 3/5/2024.

Richard Allen Childs Sr. went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 joining his wife Arlene Mokray Childs of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Richard, a.k.a Big Rick, was born in Covington, VA and was a father who loved the Lord, his kids, grandkids, and siblings. Retired from Delta Airlines RDU, Big Rick loved and found joy in his dogs, gardening, fresh tomato sandwiches, the Green Bay Packers and visits from his grandkids. Ok, and maybe an occasional PayDay candy bar or two. He had a passion for aviation, he loved being working around airplanes. He loved that his job allowed his family to travel the world together. He also loved being near the water, whether in a boat or swimming in a creek or river. Water invigorated him! Big Rick will be remembered for his fishing adventures with his grandsons, spending time on the lake, his beautiful vegetable gardens, his shenanigans and good sense of humor. He was good at reading people and seeing things from their shoes. He was a good conversationalist, and would often say, "There are no strangers, and everyone starts their day just like we do." ; and "You never know who is watching so always try to do your best." Richard is survived by his daughter, Jacquie Roddy, his grandchildren Reagan (22) and Jessup (20) of Myrtle Beach, SC. Daughter, Jennifer Jobson and her husband David, his grandsons Grayson (26), Tanner (25), and Ryan (22) of Charlotte, NC. Son, Richard (Rick) Childs II and his wife Heather, his grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Michael (22), Robert (19), Richard (Ricky) III (18), Cooper (15), Mary (14), Emma (12), and Ella (12) of Raleigh, NC. Siblings Joseph Childs of Alaska and Tina Bray of Arizona. Richard is pre-deceased by his wife lovely bride of 35 years Arlene Mokray Childs, his parents Norman and Mildred Childs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to: https://www.childrensflightofhope.org/
