Obituary
Richard A Lopez

Durham, North Carolina

Age 83.
Died 2/21/2023.

Richard A Lopez, of Durham, North Carolina, passed away on February 21, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Priscilla Lopez, three children, Andrea (Davis), Tony and Rick Jr, along with his grandson, Zak Davis, his wife Claire and their grandson Sawyer. Rick, as he was known by friends, grew up in Miami, Florida where he enjoyed many childhood years boating, fishing and playing baseball. He was an exceptional saxophone player and also played in his high school band. As a young man, he entered the United States Marines, where he proudly served his country. While on leave from the military, he met the woman who became the love of his life, Priscilla Lopez, in Carolina Beach, NC. They married shortly thereafter and remained married for 61 years until his passing. Rick enjoyed playing golf and all things outdoors. He was an avid walker and loved to work in his yard year-round. He was a fond member of his neighborhood community and did what he could to help anyone in need. He devoted his life to the service of others and left many legacies through that service. A self-taught computer programmer, he worked hard to support his family, who always came first. He made time for every ball game, every recital and every event his children ever participated in, showing his love and support for them. One of his proudest moments was the birth of his grandson, Zak Davis. He spent many years playing catch with Zak, attended every baseball game he ever played, and even saw him win a Little League World Series. He was able to be present for the marriage of Zak to his wife, Claire, in an event that brought the entire family together for one last time in Holden Beach, NC. He was so proud. His quiet demeanor in the most difficult of times, served as an example of his character and integrity, He will be greatly missed.
