Obituary
Paul Michael Hughes ('Mike')

Raleigh, North Carolina

Age 50.
Died 5/21/2025.

Paul Michael Hughes June 29, 1974 – May 21, 2025 Paul Michael Hughes, 50, of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away on May 21, 2025. Born on June 29, 1974, Paul, or 'Mike', was a son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was known for his sharp wit, memorable personality, and unmistakable presence in any room. Paul had a way with words, a quick sense of humor, and a charm that made him stand out wherever he went. Paul was a graduate of Northview High School in Dothan, Alabama. He worked in sales for most of his life, most notably in automobile sales, where he was recognized as an astute and capable salesman. In his later years, Paul faced significant health challenges that made it difficult for him to continue working. Despite the ups and downs in his life, he retained his cleverness and distinct character to the end. A lifelong fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Paul loved watching Alabama football and never missed a chance to cheer on his team. In his final years, Paul spoke most often about two things he loved deeply: his motorcycle, and his grandson Charles, whom he hoped to meet. He is survived by his sons, Blake Michael McGill and Jordan Henderson Butler McGill, and his grandson, Charles Mark McGill. He is also survived by his mother, Linda S. Henderson (Keith), and his father, Gordon W. Hughes (Kathie); his sister, Stacy L. Devente (Jason); his brothers, Benjamin G. Hughes (Alexis) and Hayes W. Hughes (Rebecca); his step-sisters, Katy E. Henderson, Ariana L. Henderson, and Malone Hughes; and his step-brothers, Mason Hughes and Andrew Hughes. Paul was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Earl and Marion Saltzgiver, and his paternal grandparents, Malone and Gladys Hughes. A private memorial service will be held on May 30, 2025 followed by a celebration of Paul's life by all those who loved him. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Paul’s final wish—to support his son Jordan and young grandson Charles during an extraordinarily difficult time. Paul had hoped to help them financially before his passing, and any contribution would continue the care he wished he could give.
