Obituary
Marva Lee Mehaffey

Raleigh, North Carolina

Age 83.
Died 6/14/2025.

Marva Lee Yeager Mehaffey, 83, of Raleigh, NC passed away June 14, 2025. Born January 29, 1942, in Newton, Iowa to the late Marvin and Vera Yeager, Marva grew up in rural Iowa and Illinois communities along with her brothers, Allan, Robert and Joe. Marva earned a BS in Home Economics from Iowa State University, where she met and married Ronald Mehaffey. Her career included roles as a 4-H Extension Agent, bookkeeper, tax preparer, and office manager for Habitat for Humanity. Marva was a passionate giver and lifelong volunteer in the community, schools, and church. A devoted Presbyterian, Marva actively served in every church she joined—as a teacher, elder, or volunteer. Her love for reading, cards, quilting, and community involvement established life-long connections in each of the six states and two communities in England they called home. She helped organize and quilt over a thousand quilts for donation to hospitals and nursing homes and worked to create special bibs for the Rosewood Nursing Facility in their retirement community. A 55-year member of P.E.O., Marva was recently honored as a Golden Girl for her long-standing commitment to women’s education and philanthropy. Her efforts always reflect her commitment to service, compassion, and giving back to those in need within her community. Marva was known for her warm hospitality and unwavering kindness. She enjoyed spending time with family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend— often hosting gatherings, bees, card nights, reunions, and always creating lasting memories with her thoughtful words, annual Christmas ornaments, or generous spirit. Marva is survived by her husband Ron, daughter Kathryn Mehaffey (Randy Million), son Russell (Patti) Mehaffey; and grandchildren Nathan Hasselbring (Julia Kaufmann), Matthew Hasselbring, Kasey (Tucker) Mills, Shannon Mehaffey, brothers Allan (Bev) Yeager, Robert (Dee) Yeager, Joe (Sandy) Yeager; and nieces/nephews Celeste Karan, Emily (Ben) Rexrode, Rachel (Shaman) Douglass, Laura (Tom) Fangman, Chris (Mikaela) Yeager and grandnieces/nephews Charlotte Karan, Anya Karan, Molly Rexrode, Beckner Rexrode, and Kellam Douglass. Marva was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Raymond and Rita Mehaffey, and sister-in-law Jean Mehaffey. Join us in honoring Marva's life. A service and celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 20, beginning with a service at North Raleigh Presbyterian Church, 11905 Strickland Road, Raleigh, NC 27613, at 11:30 a.m. and continuing with a Celebration of Life open house at The Cypress of Raleigh Clubhouse, 8801 Cypress Lakes Drive, Raleigh, NC 27615, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. The family welcomes all to attend. In place of flowers, the family suggests donations in Marva’s memory to the P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education, through the P.E.O. Foundation at www.peonc.org, or charity of your choice.
