Obituary
Marie Frances Brown

Durham, North Carolina

Age 63.
Died 3/23/2023.

Marie Frances Brown— beloved daughter, sister and aunt— passed away in March 2023 in Durham, North Carolina. She was the fourth daughter of Alyce and John Brown, born February 2, 1960 in Paterson, New Jersey. Even as a toddler, Marie's affinity for language was evident as she recited her alphabet while scooting up and down the stairs. It came as no surprise that Marie would go on to become an English major at Rutgers University, graduating with honors. After graduation, she worked in media production in New Jersey and later in two museums: the Newark Museum (Newark, NJ), and the 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York City. Marie loved exploring the vibrant culture of New York City. She also enjoyed hiking in nature, drives to discover new small towns, and watching the Rangers play hockey. However, her greatest passion was writing. She was a gifted writer who found inspiration all around her and truly appreciated the beauty of life. As she stated on the back of her published poetry collection, In Plain Voice,"I find inspiration in many things such as music, nature, the visual arts and life in general." Marie's essence is woven throughout her poetry. Marie is survived by her mother, Alyce Brown, and her five sisters: Jacqueline Brown, Lynn Drazin, Catherine Hendrickson, Michelle Smith, and Karen Theiller. She was an aunt to eight nieces, three nephews, and two grand-nephews. Even though Marie is no longer with us, our cherished moments with her are forever engraved on our hearts. Rest in peace, and know that you will always be loved.
