Our Beloved Father Leo Joseph Biggie Sr. of Raleigh NC went home to Jesus and Mary on November the 22nd at 4:20 am in the Durham VA COC Hospice in Durham NC.
Dad boasted often that he was born on Saint Joseph's "Birthday" March 19, 1931 in Reynoldsville PA. Who knows? He may have had the inside scoop on Saint Joseph's actual date of birth. He was the Child of Leo Curtis Biggie and Mary Cathryn Biggie (Hetrick). Dad was the 3rd child in a family of 7 children, 5 girls, and 2 boys. Once out of School He started working for his brother in laws construction company alongside his dad Leo Curtis as a Carpenter until he joined the 82nd Airborne on August 1st 1950. His basic training was done in Fort Bragg NC, and it was near there in the town of Fayetteville NC that he met his Sweet Heart, a tobacco farmers daughter Clara Vivian Biggie (Buffkin), and were married on May 3rd 1952. He was honorably discharged on August 26, 1953. In September of 1953, Dad moved his family back to his home State of Pennsylvania, where he took up residence in Punxsutawney PA working on the railroad. Then in the autum of 1956, he was transferred from the Punxsutawney railroad division to Buffalo New York to work on the railroad there. However, due to the hard winters, his family moved back to his wife's home state NC. It was in NC that Dad entered Bricklaying School in the Spring of 1957 and after graduating with a 3 year degree with the Title "Skilled Bricklayer" and along with his wife's cosmetology degree he and our mother raised a family of 9 Children in NC.
Dad had a big heart and was kind to all people and Loved to sit down and Chit chat with anyone. His laughter could be heard above everyone else in the room. Most of all he loved his wife of 60 yrs, his Children, and grandchildren. Loving his family meant a lot of love needed to be spread around because we are a big group.
