Obituary
Lena Leeds

Pittsboro, North Carolina

Age 97.
Died 11/3/2024.

Lena Leeds, age 97 of Pittsboro, NC, formerly from Mauricetown and Palmyra, NJ, died on November 3, 2024. She was born November 2, 1927 in Prospect Park, NJ to the late John and Barendje Berrevoets, immigrants from Holland. She is survived by her caring children Linda Leeds Rust, Richard G. (Terri) Leeds, Jr., Nancy J. Leeds, daughter-in-law Debbie Leeds, 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law George Schork, and sisters-in-law Janice Leeds and Emily Crane. She is predeceased by her husband R. Gilbert, son Nelson, son-in-law David Rust, grandson Ryan, great grandsons Kyle and Jacob, parents, and 9 siblings Gertrude Pearson, Alida Adams, Johanna Stroher, Cornelis Berrevoets, Dina Fiedler Adams, Grace Aretz, John Berrevoets, Violet Schork, and Lily Berrevoets. Lena attended Audubon Gospel Hall and Marmora Gospel Chapel when living in NJ. After moving to NC, she attended Pittsboro Bible Assembly in Pittsboro. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior. Gently and quietly she served and encouraged her family and others by faithfully praying for them, corresponding with them, and mailing in “Bible Searchers” completed by others, and sending out “Messages of God’s Love.” Her frequent saying “Keep looking up” was routinely written or spoken to all who knew her. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, including 100 Raggedy Ann dolls, making puzzles, and weeding. Grandma’s homemade spaghetti sauce was a family favorite. The many prayers, cards, letters, texts, and visits from family, friends, and residents were greatly appreciated. Special thanks to Pittsboro Christian Village Care Home staff for their exceptional loving care for 3 years. The additional support from Liberty Hospice based in Sanford was outstanding and invaluable, especially CHHA Ashley Brownlee. A celebration of life will be held at Marmora Gospel Chapel on April 25, 2025. In her memory, contributions can be made to Marmora Gospel Chapel, PO Box 708 Marmora, NJ 08223 or Pittsboro Christian Village, 1825 East Street, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
