Obituary
Kevin Guerin

Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina

Age 65.
Died 5/6/2025.

Kevin Joseph Guerin, aged 65, of Hastings, NY, passed away on May 6th, 2025 at Duke Raleigh Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina after a 2.5 year battle with lung cancer. He was predeceased by his father, Henry Clarence Guerin and his mother, Jeanette Katherine (Light) Guerin. Kevin is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Stacy L (Smith) Guerin. His three children, Nicholas J Guerin, Dr. Steven J Guerin, PhD, and Katherine L (Guerin) Archer, along with his son-in-law, Troy H Archer, and 3 month old grandson, Hunter Kevin Archer. Kevin was born at CVPH in Plattsburgh, NY and attended Saranac High School. He served 4.5 years in the US Air Force, where he was stationed in New Mexico, Germany and California. Kevin met the love of his life, Stacy, while working for the Ward Lumber company in Jay, New York, as a forklift operator. They relocated to Syracuse, married and Kevin enrolled at Onondaga community college. He excelled in electronics and graduated as valedictorian of his class in the Electrical Technology program at OCC. Soon after, he started his 35 year career at the SUNY College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry. Kevin thoroughly enjoyed bringing his expertise in electronics, material science and mechanics to teach and assist countless grad students and college faculty members with design, fabrication and repair of analytical and technical equipment. He was a true and trusted friend to his many coworkers, collaborators and students. He retired at the end of 2024. Kevin and Stacy settled in Hastings, NY, focusing on raising a family and enjoying an active outdoor life. Kevin was active in every part of his children’s lives. During school, he was an active and valuable asset to their teachers and coaches. Outside of school, he was an active member of PTA, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Kevin was a true and avid sportsman. His skill and patience were hard to beat. The whole family was very active with the Northshore Sportsman’s Club in Bernhards Bay, camping, swimming, canoeing, shooting, and riding 4-wheelers. As the kids got older, Kevin and Stacy moved onto kayaking and motorcycle riding as their favorite pastimes. Kevin and Stacy moved to Raleigh, NC in early April to be near Kate and her growing family. He spent 2 precious weeks with them and his grandson before losing his battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life is planned for noon on Sunday, July 20th, at the Hastings Volunteer Fire Station. The dress code is casual. Donations, in leu of flowers, can be made to Helping Hounds Dog Rescue of Syracuse, NY or any other animal charity of your choosing.
