Obituary
Kathleen "Kit" Galdi

Cary, North Carolina

Age 98.
Died 8/1/2024.

Kathleen “Kit” (McFarlin) Galdi of Woodland Terrace in Cary, NC, passed away on August 1, 2024. She was 98. Kit was born in Pittsburgh, PA, where she and younger brother Bill were raised by their parents, Francis and Catherine McFarlin. She spent her teen years working in her disabled Father’s restaurant, McFarlin’s Grill, as World War II raged. After the war, she attended Seton Hill College where she earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology. She received a full scholarship to Catholic University where she continued her studies in Psychology and earned her master’s degree. It was at Catholic University where she met her first husband, Ernest Galdi, who also attended Catholic University after returning from his tour of duty in the Army. Kit applied her education working as a school psychologist in the public-school systems in both Prince Georges County and Calvert County, Maryland. At the same time, she raised six children of her own in Oxon Hill, Maryland. When she retired, she found herself restless and needing to give back, having been taught about service to others by the nuns her entire life. She spent time in the Washington, DC, area counseling for the Alexandria mental health clinic, cooking dinners at the Christ House Homeless Center in DC, serving on the Board of the DC Geriatric Day Care Center, and preparing sunrise breakfasts for the homeless at the DC Epiphany Church. She also took a position teaching parenting skills to recovering drug addicted moms at a rehab facility. In her retirement, she found time for herself and took great joy in traveling the world with her husband Ernie, until his passing. As she continued her travels solo, she met Claus Wolf, with whom she continued to travel, and eventually married. She took up writing and painting during retirement and left behind a collection of impressive works in both areas. Kit was preceded in death by her husband Ernie, Brother Bill, son-in-law Doug Robinson, and beloved Grandsons Chris Galdi and Alex Wilson. She is survived by husband Claus Wolf, Dave Galdi (Kathy) of Millersville, MD; Joan Drury (Darrel) of Sarasota, FL: Phil Galdi (Andrea) of Millersville, MD; Carola Wilson (Ron) of North Beach, MD; Tom Galdi (Dawne) of Apex, NC; Lynn Robinson (Doug, deceased) of Owings, MD; and 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Contributions in her memory can be made to Transitions LifeCare (https://www.transitionslifecare.org/donate/) or your local hospice chapter.
