Obituary
Joseph Carloni

Raleigh, North Carolina

Age 80.
Died 4/20/2023.

Joseph (Joe) Leo Carloni, of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family in the early hours of Thursday, April 20, 2023. Joe is survived by his wife and faithful partner of 55 years, Millie (Hattman) Carloni; his brother, Francis Carloni (Joyce); sister, Jeanne Carloni; sister, Leona Colosimo (Jimmy); daughters Michele Thomas (Patrick) and Cindy Natale; grandchildren Spencer and Lindsay Thomas and Isabella Natale; and several special nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by brother Gino Carloni and sister Rose Carloni-Miller. Joe was born December 18, 1942 in Bradford, PA to the late Leo and Irene Carloni. He was the baby of his family, being the youngest of six siblings. Shortly after graduating from Bradford Area High School in 1961 he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for a brief time before returning to the States. He met the love of his life, Millie, while working at Wright Patterson AFB and they wed after a courtship of three months. Joe retired from the United States Postal Service after 36 years. During retirement he made many friends while running at Shelley Lake and Williams Park. He loved the outdoors and most days could be found tending to his beautifully landscaped yard. Joe genuinely loved chatting with neighbors, friends and strangers alike. He was quick to smile, with a twinkle in his eye and always had a kind word or joke to share. Joe enjoyed cheering on his grandchildren at their various sporting events and was proud of all of their accomplishments. Joe’s hometown of Bradford, PA was a special place for him. He looked forward to summertime trips there to gather with family and beloved high school friends, Dick McDowell and Colin Heron. He also relished the chance to indulge in his only vice, playing the slots at the nearby casino. There are no words to express how grateful and blessed we are for his nieces Jamie Youd and Jill Tepper, who along with sister Leona Colosimo helped provide assistance and comfort to him as well as family during his final days. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. A celebration of life is planned for this summer in his hometown of Bradford, PA. If you would like to make a memorial donation the family asks that you consider Transitions Lifecare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607. www.transitionslifecare.org
