Obituary
Jimmy D. Woodard

Raleigh, North Carolina

Age 77.
Died 2/23/2025.

Jimmy Don Woodard, 77, of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on February 23, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Jimmy was born on August 14, 1947, in Middlesex, North Carolina, to the late James Alison Woodard and Geraldine Cone but was raised by his late grandparents, Roy Carson and Myrla Glover Cone. As a young boy, he enjoyed helping his Granddaddy run his gas station and store on Highway 96 in Middlesex, an experience that shaped his strong work ethic and love for serving others. Jimmy dedicated 30 years of service to the City of Raleigh Utilities Department before retiring. He then continued working at North Carolina State University's McKimmon Center for another 10 years. A longtime member of Forest Hills Baptist Church in Raleigh, he served faithfully as a deacon and contributed to various church committees. His commitment to helping others extended beyond the church walls through his service with the North Carolina Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief. A firm believer in Jesus Christ, Jimmy spent his life ministering to others and sharing his unwavering faith. A true Southerner at heart, Jimmy enjoyed a good country breakfast, collards, and fried chicken. He loved cooking a pig as much as he loved eating it. He always did appreciate a nice pair of slick leather cowboy boots and a wide-brimmed cowboy hat. A jack-of-all-trades, he had a talent for building, welding, and mechanics—there was little he couldn’t fix. He was also happiest with his four-legged furry companions by his side. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Susan Fralick Woodard; his son, Adam McCall Woodard; his daughter, Jessica Carson Woodard; and his son, Don Woodard (Helen) from a previous marriage. He is also survived by many cherished family members and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 201 Dixie Trail, Raleigh, NC, on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 12 PM, with Dr. Allison Farrah (First Baptist Church, Hamlet, NC) and Dr. Mark White of Forest Hills officiating. Per Jimmy’s request, anyone who’d like to don a cowboy hat to his service should feel free. For a live stream of the service: https://www.youtube.com/@FHBCRaleigh/streams In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Forest Hills Baptist Church, the North Carolina Baptist Disaster Relief, Hospice of Wake County, or an organization of your choice. Jimmy’s servant heart, work ethic, sense of humor, and strong faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
