Died 1/8/2024.

Jeanne Stainback Adkins, 76, of Cary, NC, passed on January 8, 2024. Jeanne (Mimi) was born in Washington, NC in 1947 to Raymond and Joyce Stainback. She lived in New Bern, NC for most of her early years and eventually settled down in Raleigh/Cary, NC. Jeanne attended Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC where she graduated with a degree in Business Administration. Jeanne enjoyed her time at her second home in Emerald Isle, NC, but she most of all loved being surrounded by her family including her four grandchildren. Jeanne met the love of her life, Bernie, in 1963 at New Bern High School and they became high school sweethearts. The two were married in New Bern at First Baptist Church in 1969 and enjoyed 54 years of marriage. Jeanne will always be remembered for her love of Las Vegas to spin the slot machine wheel. When she could not travel to Las Vegas, she enjoyed playing games on her iPad and working crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed hanging out on her screened porch in Cary and her deck overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in Emerald Isle. Her faithful dog, Lilly, was always by her side. Jeanne is survived by her loving husband, Bernard. Mimi, as she is affectionately called, is also survived by her son, Christopher (Chris) Adkins, spouse Christie, and their children, Cole and Camryn of Apex and her daughter, Heather Holt, spouse Jon, and their children, Hailey and Holly of Apex. Her four grandchildren were the joy of her life. Cole, Camryn, Hailey and Holly, loved their Mimi. Mimi enjoyed attending many of their soccer, swimming and softball sporting events. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Ellen Holloway of Wake Forest. A drop-in gathering of family and friends will be held at the home of her son, Chris Adkins in Apex on Saturday, January 13th from 12pm-2pm. Her final inurnment will be held at a later date at Greenleaf Memorial Park in New Bern, NC. Donations in her memory can be made to the ALS Association of North Carolina.
