Obituary
Jean Scicluna

Raleigh, North Carolina

Age 59.
Died 2/25/2023.

It is with a heavy heart that our family announces the passing of Jean Scicluna on February 25, 2023 at the age of 59 years. Jean was a beautiful, brilliant, hard-working, generous, passionate, free-spirited woman with an exceptional sense of humor. She was a mother to Kimberly Cook, DVM (age 36), Matthew Cook, PhD (age 33), and Kate Scicluna (age 19). She was a grandmother to Emersyn Davie (age 3) and Aerabel Cook (age 7). She served as a Registered Nurse for approximately 27 years. She graduated from Great Neck (NY) North High School in 1981. She pursued her Associate’s degree in Nursing from Arizona State University (Tempe, AZ) and later completed her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the State University of Stony Brook in New York. She worked as a cardiac nurse at North Shore University Hospital (Great Neck, NY) at the start of her career and then moved to Raleigh, NC in 2003 where she lived with her family and worked for Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC for approximately 20 years. She was an RN for the mother-baby post partem care floor of Rex Hospital for 17 years where she worked and excelled in her position up until the date of her passing. She lived with her dog Millie (7 years old, German shepherd mix) in Raleigh, NC with whom she enjoyed taking frequent hikes and runs in the woods. She was a bleeding heart for animals, children and generally any person in need of help and love. She defended human rights avidly and was unapologetically outspoken against injustice. She was very connected with nature, wildlife and the environment, seeking to leave a positive imprint on her world and its natural beauty. Jean’s children and grandchildren were her world. She carried so much pride for her babies and would give anything for her family. She was also an artist, an animal lover and rescuer, an amazing dancer, a competitive board game opponent, an independent, self-motivated learner with a work ethic and attitude that she could accomplish anything. She was most importantly a strong role model for her children and grandchildren. She was a beautiful and hilarious woman with an unparalleled sense of humor and a confidence that left people feeling envious. Her smile could light up an entire room and her laugh was uplifting and captivating to everyone around her. She had a spirit and presence that is irreplaceable and our family will always feel incomplete without her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and fondly remembered by those who were blessed enough to be in her life.
