Obituary
Herman L. Warren Jr.

Raleigh, North Carolina

Age 81.
Died 12/23/2024.

Herman (H.L.) Warren went to his heavenly home into the arms of Jesus on December 23. His wife was by his side at their home. He went peacefully and we know that God received him with the words “well done thy good and faithful servant.” He had fought cancer for three years. H.L. was born in Wake Forest, NC on October 26, 1943 to the late Herman and Bertie Warren. He graduated in 1962 from Wake Forest High School. He was drafted into the Army in 1966 and served his country during the Vietnam war. He served a year in Vietnam. He was stationed at Cu Chi as a supply clerk and obtained the rank of sergeant. After his discharge from service, he was employed with the City of Raleigh Fire Department. He retired as a Captain in 1998. He loved his job and the people he worked with. He never met a stranger and he was the type of person that everyone loved. He and his family joined Trinity Baptist Church in 1973 and the members there are truly their church “family.” He served as a greeter, usher, ROC volunteer, and served as chairman of the security committee for over 20 years. He loved his volunteer work there and served on almost all the committees at one time or another. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Annette Shannon and her husband, Bob Shannon. He was also predeceased by Chuck McGraw, brother-in-law. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Joyce Warren; his daughter Michele Walker (Jeff); his daughter Lisa Byrd (Mike), and grandchildren, Adam and Anna Grace Evans and Miles Walker who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his sister, Jeanette McGraw of Gastonia, NC; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elaine and Butch Garner of Newport, NC, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the senior adult committee of Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609 Services: Celebration of Life Trinity Baptist Church Friday, January 10 at 2 p.m. Visitation with family beginning at 12:30 Private interment to follow service in the church columbarium.
