Obituary
Eric Jay Farrar

Clayton, North Carolina

Age 55.
Died 10/19/2025.

October 22, 1969 — October 19, 2025 A warrior with a gentle heart, a father with a soldier’s soul, and a friend to every creature. There are lives that pass quietly, and then there are lives that move through the world like a steady flame — one ignited by purpose and brightened by love. For many, Eric Jay Farrar was that light. In public and professional settings, he was known as Eric. To those who loved him most, he was simply Jay — loyal, valiant, and always ready to give of himself without hesitation. Born on October 22, 1969, Jay’s life was defined by service — to his country, his family, his friends, and every living thing that crossed his path. For more than fourteen years, he served in the United States Army and Reserves with unflinching bravery and conviction. Although a decorated soldier, his truest achievements were quieter: a reputation for integrity, a circle of lifelong friends, and a legacy of steadfast kindness that could never be measured only by medals or rank. Jay never met a stranger — only people whose days he brightened with his easy smile and generous spirit. When his military chapter closed, Jay continued his life of purpose in gentler form, returning to one of his earliest passions — caring for animals. At the North Carolina State Veterinary School, he devoted himself to their well-being with the same discipline and dedication he had given his country. For colleagues and students alike, his presence was grounding and inspiring — a quiet reminder that real strength is found in service. Jay’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his cherished wife, Jevonna (Jon); his beloved children, Jaylen, Savannah and Raleigh; and his faithful dog, Tyson, who rarely left his side. He is also survived by his mother, Vivian Farrar, and father, Ernest Farrar and wife Regina; his brother, Ernest Farrar Jr. and Bridgette; and his sisters, Javette Farrar and Enid Horton and her husband Marvin Diarelll Horton. He leaves behind a wide and loving community including his in-laws, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and many friends who became his extended family — each one touched by his laughter, his loyalty, and his steady habit of showing up when others needed him most. To all who knew him, saying goodbye feels nearly impossible, for Jay gave so much of himself to everyone he met. His friendships are enduring and will last eternally. Jay’s story does not end here. It continues in the laughter of his children, in every act of kindness inspired by his example, and in the quiet courage of those who move forward in his honor. His life reminds us that strength and tenderness are not opposites — they are indeed two halves of the same brave heart. And though his flame has dimmed from sight, the light he shared still burns in all he touched — guiding, inspiring, and reminding us of the enduring power of a life well-lived and a man deeply loved.
