Obituary
Elizabeth Cherry Stokes

Cary, North Carolina

Age 52.
Died 11/14/2025.

Elizabeth Cherry Stokes, 52, of Cary, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2025, surrounded by her husband and children, after a courageous battle with cancer. Elizabeth was born in Thomasville, GA, on June 22, 1973, to Ann R. Cherry and the late Sherman D. Cherry, Sr. Elizabeth was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a true testament to a life lived for God's glory. She was an active member of Cross Assembly in Raleigh, NC, where she found great joy in serving the Lord. She will be remembered for her joyful laugh, her compassionate heart, and her unwavering faith in God's promises. Elizabeth loved the church, her pastors, and her church family, and was always eager to share the love of Jesus with others. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend who loved Jesus and opened her heart to all those around her. Elizabeth loved teaching and homeschooled her three children in addition to tutoring math in years prior after an engineering career. As a passionate homeschooling mother, she poured her love and energy into nurturing her children, Daniel, Rebekah, and Mary Elizabeth, teaching them the importance of faith, family, and a love for learning. She instilled in them a strong foundation in God's Word and a belief in His plan for their lives. She loved music, playing piano, and singing and passed on this love to her children, along with her husband. Elizabeth especially loved hymns and contemporary worship music that glorifies our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Elizabeth is survived by her devoted husband of 26 years, David Stokes; her children, Daniel Stokes, Rebekah Stokes, and Mary Elizabeth Stokes; her mother, Ann R. Cherry of Moultrie, GA; her sister, d’Ann Black and husband Jim of Moultrie, GA; and her brother, Dean Cherry and wife Christy of Moultrie, GA. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10 A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held at Cross Assembly’s Yonkers Road Campus (Raleigh, NC) on Saturday, November 22 at 11 AM with visitation at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Elizabeth’s memory to our church’s mission project to support building a Christian school in Bethlehem, Israel. https://crossassembly.org/give
