Obituary
Dianne Beattie

Raleigh, North Carolina

Age 83.
Died 3/1/2023.

Dianne Zschau Beattie February 9, 1940 – March 1, 2023 Dianne was born in Chicago, daughter of the late Edwin Arthur and Helen Kelly Zschau. She grew up in Raleigh and graduated from Broughton High School in 1958. She then went on to attend St. Mary’s Jr. College and shortly after began her career working in the Genetics Department of NCSU. Dianne joined Hayes Barton United Methodist Church in 1986 where she became a faithful member of the Grand Age Club, Wesleyan Fellowship Sunday School Class, and the Thursday Morning Lectionary and Wednesday Evening Fellowship, as well as Early Worship services. She also served on the HOA Board at Yester Oaks for five years. Her family and friends reflected on her as being kind, happy and upbeat, and she loved and cared for people. She enjoyed gardening and frequently rescued and rehabilitated injured wildlife. She was an avid collector of pottery. She was a big fan of the NCSU Basketball and Football teams and often attended the games. Dianne is survived by her daughter, Kristen Beattie (New York); sister Marilyn Zschau-Baars (Frans)(California); her nephew, Rob Zschau and niece, Mary McLean Zschau Lawrence (Penn); her cousins Fred Dent and Jim Dent (Ali)(Georgia); and Jay Zschau (Leila) (Florida). She is predeceased by her brother, Eddie Zschau whom she adored – she called him “Bubby.” A memorial service will be held at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, 2209 Fairview Road., Raleigh, NC on Friday, March 10 at 2 pm followed by a visitation reception. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
