Obituary
D. Lupino H. Washington

Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Age 64.
Died 7/16/2023.

D. Lupino Holmes Washington, 64, of Buffalo Junction, Virginia, died on 16 July 2023 from injuries sustained after an attack by her longtime partner. Lupino was born in El Paso, Texas on 4 June 1959. She attended University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and ultimately graduated with her Bachelors degree in Nursing from University of North Carolina-Greensboro. She worked as a nurse for nearly 40 years, at Moses Cone Hospital (Greensboro, NC), George Washington University Hospital (Washington, DC), Prince George’s Hospital Center (Cheverly, MD), and Duke University Hospital (Durham, NC). She was a fixture in each place, working in a variety of intensive care and post-surgical units, mentoring and coaching young and seasoned medical professionals alike, and passing on her extensive knowledge to everyone who asked (and some who didn’t). She loved to garden, crochet blankets for friends and family, and dote on her pets, her children’s pets, and animals in general. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date. For more information, or to send condolences, memories, photos of Lupino and the like, please email thinkingoflupino@gmail.com. Cards and other physical items can be sent to D. Nicole Washington, PO Box 58859, New Orleans, LA 70158. Lupino is survived by a large and loving family, including her two children, her parents, her two siblings, and a bevy of heartbroken nieces, nephews, niblings, and close friends. She is also survived by Brewster and Angus, her dogs, who were with her in her last conscious moments. The family would like it known that we did not lose Lupino. She was taken from us in an act of violence by someone who claimed to love her. If you or anyone you know is suffering from intimate partner violence, please know that there are people willing to help you.

For additional information or for service details, please reach out to the family directly.
