Obituary
Claudia Krueck

Raleigh, North Carolina

Age 78.
Died 3/9/2024.

Claudia Robey Krueck peacefully left this world on March 9, 2024. Born February 14, 1946, in South Boston, Virginia to an entrepreneurial workhorse, Claude William Robey, and the former beauty queen of Halifax county, Gladys Virginia Whitt, she grew up loving baseball, cowboy movies, and reading the dictionary. The family moved to Greensboro while she was still in grade school. After marrying her high school sweetheart, James Arnold Spillers, she became the proud mother to Jeffrey Lyle Spillers and Shelby Lyn (Spillers) Reap. Though that marriage didn't last, Claudia did find the love of her life. In 1979 she married a truly good man, James Ross Krueck, and moved to Raleigh. Claudia was a creator. A genius with a sewing machine, many of her creations were crafted without a pattern. She could draw charcoals and pastels, watercolor landscapes, needlepoint dozens of Christmas ornaments, and crochet enough afghans to keep her family cozy for years. From her childhood when she rescued a litter of kittens destined for a sad end to her last beloved calico, Lola, she was a lover of animals. Her independent spirit led her to repaint her entire house, including the kitchen cabinets, and hang wood blinds in every window all by herself. She was smarter than everyone in any room and wasn't afraid to let you know. In her final years, when Alzheimer's stole nearly everything from her, she still had her beautiful smile and the bluest eyes that would light up the world. In addition to her children, she is survived by her son-in-law, Hunter Reap; her wonderful sisters and their husbands, whom she lovingly called her brothers, Phyllis and John Holder of Greensboro, NC, and Connie and Bobby Apple of Shelby, NC; and her nieces Laurann Hooks, Lisa Cregger, and Tracey Pittman, and their families. Donations in Claudia's memory can be made to Transitions LifeCare at https://www.transitionslifecare.org/donate/.
