Charles Holman, III

Charles Henry (Chuck) Holman III was born November 11, 1953, in Kokomo, IN, to Charles Henry Holman Jr. and Marilyn Sue Holman. With loved ones by his side, Chuck passed away peacefully at his home in Raleigh, NC, on February 11, 2024, at the age of 70, following a year-long battle with cancer. Chuck was raised in Greentown, IN. He graduated from Eastern High School in 1972, then continued his education at Kettering University, formerly known as General Motors Institute (GMI), and in 1977, he earned a baccalaureate in mechanical engineering. At Kettering, he was a proud Phi Delta Theta fraternity member. He continued his education with postgraduate studies in finance at Michigan State University. Chuck married his wife, Patty Cummings, on August 21, 2015, in a beautiful ceremony in Indianapolis, IN. He was a long-time resident of Laingsburg, MI, where he raised his family with his former spouse, Denise Holman. Chuck began his professional career with The Christman Company. Through Christman, he developed a passion for construction management and ascended the ranks to become a Vice President, shareholder, and board of directors member. He continued working in the industry and held positions including but not limited to President of Paragon Construction Company, East Lansing, MI; Senior Vice President of NPR Group, San Antonio, TX; Vice President of Allied Diversified Construction, Carmel, IN; and Vice President, DTN Management Group, Lansing, MI. Chuck was very proud of his contribution to the construction of the Breslin Center at Michigan State University. His other local and national projects included K-12 schools, GM dealerships, shopping centers, hospitals, power plants, and student housing. He also spent many years as a national and regional developer, builder, and property manager of several multi-family housing developments. He loved his work and continued working until shortly before his death. Chuck and Patty’s love for each other was strong and evident to everyone who knew them. Together, they enjoyed traveling, visiting family, participating in local events, visiting local parks, and spending time at the beach. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed golf trips with his many friends. Despite his illness, he attended last summer’s annual golf trip with his friends in Michigan. He played cards every chance he could. His favorite card game was Gin, which he loved to play with his friends, son-in-law Noel, and grandson Merrick. He enjoyed having intellectual discussions with his granddaughter Paige, watching his grandson, Jamie, participate in multiple sports, watching televised sports with his grandson Dillon, and family get-togethers with grandsons Sean Jr. and Dominick. He also enjoyed time at Scenic Lake with his grandson Keyin and granddaughter Taylor. He was an avid reader and always had a book in his hands. He was a member of Austin Lodge #128 in Tipton, IN, Murat Shrine of Indianapolis, IN, the Indianapolis Scottish Rite, Post 317 American Legion in Greentown, IN, and a former member of the Lansing Country Club, Lansing Rotary Club, and Builders Exchange of Lansing. An annual scholarship will be named in his honor through the Builders Exchange of Lansing. Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Patty, Raleigh, NC; son, Travis (Tracy), Southbend, IN; daughter, Natalie (Noel) Peters, Kewadin, MI; step-son Sean Cammuso Sr., Cary, NC; mother-in-law, Violet Cummings, Lindenhurst IL; two sisters, Marcie (Donald) Duncan, Kokomo IN, Anne (Barry) Grant, Greentown, IN; brother, Chris (Susan) Holman, Kokomo, IN; two sisters-in-law, Maureen (Lou) Scarpaci, Antioch, IL, Sheila (Mike) Daniels, Albemarle, NC; brother-in-law, Brian Cummings, Lindenhurst, IL; grandchildren, Keyin Holman, Taylor Peters, Paige Peters, Jamie Peters, Merrick Peters, Sean Cammuso Jr., Dominick Cammuso, Dillon Cammuso; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, C. Frank and Iola Jane Fisher, and Charles H. Holman Sr. and Mabel Holman; parents, Charles H. Holman Jr. and Marilyn Sue Holman; father-in-law, Jeremiah Cummings; sister Jonelle Holman; brother Shawn Holman; and brother-in-law Keith Hochstedler. Chuck graciously requested his body be donated to Duke University for medical research. He also requested a private family service that will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the team at Gentiva Hospice for their care and support.
