Obituary
C. Wesley Clark Jr.

Knightdale, North Carolina

Age 65.
Died 10/8/2024.

Clyde Wesley Clark, Jr. (Wesley), aged 65, passed away peacefully at Transitions Hospice on Tuesday, October 8 after a long illness He is survived by his wife Esther Myers Clark of Knightdale, Adult Child Aspen (Erin) Clark and wife Robin Uhl of Raleigh, as well as extended family, friends and loved ones. Wesley is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde W. Clark Sr. and Nadean Clark, and sister Patricia (Patsy) Clark of Greensboro, NC. Wesley was active in Student Government during High School and became a beloved Student Body President of Southeast Guilford High in 1976. He was an Angier B. Duke Scholar and graduated from Duke University in 1986. Wesley was active in the school choir, which led him to join various church choirs through the years. He loved history and genealogy and was happy discovering new family roots. During high school, he became politically active in the Republican Party. He worked in the Helms for Senate, Reagan for President and many other campaigns. He ran unsuccessfully for the NC House. After graduating, he moved to Washington D.C. and became a Congressional Liaison for the Federal Trade Commission in the Reagan Administration. He returned to Greensboro in 1989 to serve as an Ombudsman for the Guilford County Commissioners. After a political coup, he left to work with the Friends of the Court office. Wesley served as Vice Chairman of the Guilford County Republican Party and was honored to be selected as a Presidential Elector from the 6th District in the 1992 election. After the election, he accepted a new position with the N.C. Department of Crime Control and Public Safety in the Governor’s Crime Commission. He served in several positions, including writing a monthly newsletter, The Journal, and for most notably as a Community Justice Planner working with the Community Watch, Crime Stoppers and Scholastic Crime Stoppers programs, helping them organize in different cities and counties, and writing grants for these organizations other crime prevention programs. Wesley retired in 2015 as his health began to fail. The NC Crime Stoppers awarded him with a lifetime board membership in 2021 along with naming their state award for the Board Member of the Year the “Wesley Clark Award”. The family would like to thank Transitions Hospice, Synergy HomeCare, Zebulon Rehab and Duke Hospital for their dedication and care for Wesley during these last few months of his life. A Celebration of Life will be held at Edenton United Methodist Church, 228 W. Edenton Street, Raleigh NC on October 17 at 2:00 with visitation following the service. Memorials may be made to Transitions Lifecare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC, 27607, Samaritans Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone NC 28607, or Meals on Wheels,1001 Blair Drive, Suite 100, Raleigh NC 27603.
