Obituary
Brenda Joyce Quillin Leggett

Fuquay Varina, North Carolina

Age 71.
Died 8/16/2024.

Brenda Joyce Quillin Leggett, 71, of 1605 Edgewood Drive, Elizabeth City, North Carolina passed away on August 16th in a Fuquay Varina home where she lived and was being cared for by her daughter. Brenda was born in Gary, Indiana on March 12, 1953 and was the daughter of the late Birgous Fonzo Quillin Jr. and Lydia Clifton Quillin. After Brenda graduated from Northeastern High School, she went on to study Physical Therapy at the University of North Carolina. She graduated in 1975 with a degree in Physical Therapy and started her first job at Wake Baptist Hospital as a Physical Therapist. Brenda continued serving patients in Raleigh, Fayetteville, Edenton and Elizabeth City for forty-five years until retiring in 2020. She often said, “I love what I do, and I know it’s where God wanted me”. Brenda was a caregiver, servant and a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. She cared for her husband after illness, both aging parents, children into adulthood and various neighbors with differing needs. Every trouble met with compassion, gentleness and prayer. She served as a children’s Sunday school teacher, academic tutor, SPCA volunteer, neighborhood babysitter, shared Bible studies around the kitchen table with women in the community and cared deeply for her pets. Most notably, Brenda loved the Lord her God with all her heart, soul, mind and strength. She studied His word daily and eagerly testified - He is the way, the truth and the life. Despite the suffering associated with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and breast cancer, Brenda’s faith in the Lord’s character, faithfulness and goodness never wavered. Surviving are her two children, Tanner Ryan Leggett (Shelby) of Arlington, Texas and Sarah Lindsey Leggett of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina whom she introduced to Christ and steadily encouraged to “walk in a manner worthy of the Lord”. Also survived by one grandchild, Emberly Lydia Leggett of Arlington, Texas as well as one sister, Jackie Quillin Howard of Thurmond, North Carolina and former husband, Jim Leggett of Edenton, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Jews for Jesus as Brenda supported their Christian missionary organization monthly.
