Obituary
Barbara Louise Frazier

Durham, North Carolina

Age 81.
Died 1/4/2026.

Barbara Louise Leclercq Frazier, of Hillsborough, North Carolina, lovingly known as Bobbi to friends and Granni to her family, passed away on January 4, 2026, just a few hours before her 82nd birthday. She was born on January 5, 1944, in New York City. Bobbi was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander Perry Leclercq and Pauline Jones, and by her brother, Alexander “Butch” Leclercq. She is survived by her devoted husband, Billy Frazier, and their children: Stephen Frazier (Marie Helene Kvilhaug-Frazier); Stephanie Smith (Kip Smith); and Anitta Charlson (Dan Charlson). She was a proud and deeply loving grandmother and great-grandmother to Amanda Frazier; Chelsea Frazier Horner (Indio Horner) and their children Kida, Ahsoka, and Raven Horner; Evan Frazier; Katie Smith and her children Ashlyn and Nathan Marcom; Joshua Smith (Alyssa Rodriguez) and their children Hailey and Jameson Smith; Benjamin Smith (Sarah Smith) and their children Hannah and Peter Smith; Isaac Smith; Jeremy Smith; Dalton Charlson; Lexie Charlson; and Jessica Charlson. She is also survived by her siblings Roger Leclercq (Elaine and children, Ken and Kevin), Linda Thompson (Sam and children, Melanie and Matthew), and Michael Leclercq (Crystal and children, Michael, Jr. and Marie); her close cousins Karl Hartmann and his son Conrad, and Harry Hartmann (Marcia); as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bobbi had an extraordinary love for children and animals, especially her well-trained African Grey Parrot, Peekaboo, and their dog, Pippin. Bobbi often talked about the years she volunteered with the Orange County Special Olympics, for which she was awarded a Governor's Award from NC Governor James B. Hunt, Jr. Granni will always be remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren for the joy she brought into their lives. Music seemed to live inside her—she could pick up a guitar, harmonica, or xylophone, and play songs by ear as if they had always been a part of her. But even more than her music, she will be remembered for how she made everyday life magical. Ordinary household objects became toys, games, and adventures in her hands. She instilled a love for nature and always encouraged the kids to get dirty outside—she would just hose them off later. She was most of the kids’ first sports trainer, teaching them how to play soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball—she could do it all! She loved to play pranks, laugh, and make holidays feel special, full of wonder, surprise, and excitement. Granni loved her grandchildren deeply and had a special way of connecting with each one of them. She noticed who they were, met them where they were, and made them feel safe, important, and unconditionally loved. She believed in helping those who struggled and lived out that belief with patience, compassion, and a gentle understanding that made people feel less alone. Granni’s love, creativity, and joy will continue to live on in the memories of those who were blessed to know her. In accordance with her wishes, no service will be held. Bobbi hoped that those who wished to honor her memory would do so by volunteering with the Special Olympics or making a donation to support athletes in her community. In her final days, she told her family, “Donate to the Special Olympics, and all will be right with the world!” If you want to watch her video, it is posted here: tinyurl.com/GranniBobbi Donations in her memory may be submitted using this GoFundMe link: tinyurl.com/OCSOBobbi Or mailed to: Colleen Lanigan, Coordinator Special Olympics Orange County 200 Plant Rd Chapel Hill, NC 27514
