Obituary
Barbara Anne Tabor Ingram

Raleigh, North Carolina

Age 90.
Died 4/29/2022.

Barbara Tabor Ingram, 90, of Raleigh, NC, died Friday, April 29, 2022. She was born to Gordon Whitman Tabor and Sadie Steele Tabor in Glenwood Park, Mercer County, West Virginia, on December 20, 1931. After graduating from Beaver High School in Bluefield, WV, she enlisted in the US Air Force, teaching radar class in Biloxi, Mississippi, where she met and married the love of her life, Gilbert S. Ingram. The family settled in Raleigh in 1960, where she stayed busy raising 4 children. Once her youngest children were in high school, she worked as a word processor for DHHS, then the NCSU Veterinary School where her excellent spelling, grammar and editing skills polished abstracts and manuscripts for publication. She enjoyed reading, gardening, entertaining and travel. During her life, her volunteerism matched her wide variety of interests: serving as an Elder and circle leader at Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church, delivering Meals on Wheels, working the local election day polling site, and once serving as ‘Cookie Mom’ for her daughter’s Girl Scout troop, distributing thousands of boxes of cookies out of her living room. She served as a loving caretaker to her mother and then her husband. When she could no longer physically volunteer her time, she donated to many organizations, her favorite being those involving children, veterans and animals, especially dogs. She was a proud daughter of West Virginia, a witty story teller, well-read and the Trivial Pursuit winner in the family. In her last years, her greatest joy was seeing photos and videos of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by children: Stan Ingram (Leslie) of Fuquay Varina, NC, Coleen Ross of Greenville, NC, Gail Ingram of Raleigh, NC, Barbara Anderson (David) of Wake Forest, NC, her grandchildren: Ray Brooks (Janet) of Greenville, NC, Katie Cathey (Terry) of Christiana, TN, Matt Williams (Colleen) of Charlotte, NC and Grey Williams (Beth) of Atlanta, GA, by 6 great-grandchildren, and by her sister, Judy Tabor, of Owensboro, KY. Her husband and one sister, Gail Tabor Lucas, predeceased her. In lieu of flowers: tell your Mom how much you love her, take your dog for a walk, plant a flowering shrub to bring joy and beauty to those who see it, and donate to the Disabled American Veterans at www.DAV.org/donate.
