Obituary
Anthony Bryan Overby

Wendell, North Carolina

Age 63.
Died 2/22/2025.

On May 6, 1961, Anthony Bryan Overby was brought into the world, which, with his quick wit and undying sense of humor brought laughter to the lives of many. Born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, he was a person who left every room a little lighter and always with a story worth sharing. Tony, as his friends called him, was the quintessential class clown, always ready with a joke or a playful prank. Those lucky enough to know him knew that beneath his jovial exterior was a heart full of compassion. Tony was a man of many talents. He was very athletic growing up. He played baseball, football, and basketball – all of which were coached by his father whom he looked up to. His love for sports was matched only by his passion for the outdoors. Whether it was fishing, gardening, hunting or spending time at the ocean, Tony found peace in nature. He also cherished moments spent with loved ones, enjoying pig pickin’s playing cards, watching NASCAR, and sipping a cold beer. For roughly thirty years, Tony shared his life with Shelli Overby, his wife embarking on a wild journey that brought four wonderful souls into this world. Victoria and Somer, his cherished daughters, meant a great deal to him. His love for them extended boundlessly to his grandchildren. Family was Tony’s proudest achievement in life. He had his own unique way of doing things and his personality was unlike any other. He would give anyone the shirt off his back. His compassion didn’t stop at humans; he also had a soft spot for every stray animal he met, ensuring that no cat ever went hungry on his watch. He is preceded in death by his father; Willard Pittman Overby (Sue) and mother; Deane Joyner Overby. Tony is survived by his companion, Elizabeth; daughters, Somer and Victoria; sister, Jan (Don), grandchildren; McKinley, Ralyn, Maribeth, Caroline, Owen and Wylie; along with his nieces and nephews, Stephanie (Jeremy), Taylor (Meagan), Maria, Stephanie (David), William, Donnie (Brooke), Lillian; and many friends in the community. The family will receive friends starting at 11:00am, Thursday, February 27, 2025 at City of Oaks Funeral Home and Cremation, located at 4900 Green Rd, Raleigh, NC 27616. The service will immediately follow. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Healing Transitions at 1251 Goode St, Raleigh, North Carolina.
