Obituary
Amos Ammon Chaney

Cary, North Carolina

Age 93.
Died 6/1/2022.

Amos Ammon Chaney passed away peacefully and went to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on June 1, 2022. He was born October 12, 1928, to Lowman Chaney and Gertrude Sturkie Chaney in Swansea, SC. Ammon served in the Air Force and then earned a Bachelor of Science from the School of Business at the University of South Carolina. He worked in the tire sales business serving clients throughout western NC for many years. Ammon married the love of his life Audrey Hair Chaney and together they raised a family in Asheville, NC. He was a long-time member of West Asheville Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Director and a Deacon. He spent the recent 20 years in Cary, NC near his son and was a member at Salem Baptist Church and the Senior Adult bible fellowship group (he still called it Sunday School). Ammon loved to meet and greet all those who came in his path and especially enjoyed Friday outings to Ashworth Drugs with his great grandchildren to enjoy a hot dog lunch. Ammon always strived to run the race each day and is now reunited with many loved ones in a heavenly eternal life. He is survived by his son Brad Chaney (Frankie) and daughter Amy Heffern (John), 5 grandchildren Carl Chaney (Elizabeth), Haley Chaney-Yost (Josh), Kathleen Heffern, Abby Heffern & Caroline Heffern plus 3 great grandchildren Ezekiel, Haven & Amelia Chaney, a sister-in-law Valarie Chaney and numerous nieces and nephews. Ammon was predeceased by his wife Audrey Hair Chaney, siblings Lauriston Chaney, Brantley Chaney, Luke Chaney, Arden Chaney, Louise Freeman and Gertelene Smith. A visitation will be held at Salem Baptist Church, Apex NC on Sunday, June 5 from 3:30 to 5:00PM. A celebration of Ammon’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Spring Branch Baptist Church, 833 Deacon Road, Bamberg, SC. The family will receive friends starting at 1:30PM prior to the service and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Reverend Ken Sandifer will be officiating. Memorials may be made to the Salem Baptist building fund or the charity of your choice. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith…” Hebrews 12:1-2
