Obituary
Alice Keymeulen Landis

Oxford, North Carolina

Age 98.
Died 7/8/2024.

Alice Keymeulen Landis 98, died Monday, July 8, 2024 peacefully at her home in Oxford, North Carolina. She was born in Brussels, Belgium, the youngest daughter of Oscar Joesph and Denise Marie Celine Keymeule nee Van Der Velde. She was proceeded by her husband, William T. Landis Jr. and her dearest and only sister, Sylvie Van Den Neuker , nee Keymeulen. She left behind her pride and joy, her four beloved children: William, Hamlin, Sylvia and Mary Denise, 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Alice spent most of her teen years under the German occupation of neutral Belgium. She was educated by the sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, in Brussels. After the end of WW II in Europe, she was employed by the 1ST International War Crimes Tribunal in Nuremberg , Germany as a teletype operator. She met and wed her husband in Europe. They were married 68 years. After her husband’s army discharge, they returned to his hometown of Oxford, North Carolina where they raised their family and operated a small florist shop and the Western Union Agency. As the years flew by, her small native land always remained close to her heart. Whenever possible and able to, she would retrace her steps back to Europe for some most enjoyable visits and travels. As age and health issues prevented more trips abroad, she felt quite at peace to stay at home where she often recalled and relived the bittersweet memories of different times and places long gone, but not forgotten. Thankful ever, she was able to spend her final years in a peaceful and friendly small town. Heartfelt thanks to loyal friends, neighbors, and care-givers for each kindness extended to me. God Bless You!! A Celebration of her life will be held July 17 at 11 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church in Henderson. In Lieu of flowers: All donations may be sent to: Saint James Catholic Church C/O The Altar Society, 3275 US 158 Henderson, NC 27537
